Some prestigious oldest institutions in India like Shri Dadasaheb Dhanwatey Nagar Vidyalaya is one of the oldest institutions in India. Still, this institution is lasting its importance of giving an education to society since 1869. Many well-wishers, people, students, and teachers belong to the part of society who gave their valuable contributions at various levels. Some of these people are the part of history now, whose contribution can not be ignored. Some are giving their valuable service to this institution for the benefit of society in the fields of education.

This school was established on 1 April 1869. This region belonged to the part of Bhosale rule which getting solved by British rule in on1854. During the period of Bhosale rule, some of the schools were run by the Bhosale ruler for the education of people. This was spread as a school of Ganba Pantoji.This school pattern of giving education to all was fully unsatisfactory because of various social problems. After the implementation of British rule in 1854, no any type of policy of giving education was not fully developed. Up to 1862, no type of rules of giving education to people was the exit. Actual schools were established with the help of Missionary. Before that, some type of efforts were taken by the Missionary in 1846 by establishing the Hislop College for boys at a small level. During that period, the mentality of people was not ready to send their children to missionary school. So for that, there was a need of such school in children around that area could the education in their own school.
Due to the migration of qualified people from Mumbai, some of them were also interested in forming schools for educating the people.Due to the efforts of all such qualified people and some local people, this school opened as a Neelcity High school. Before 1869, this school was in the traditional mansion of Munshi Jallaluddin which was run by some people like Shrimant Ahirrao ,Shrimant Chitniwis and other people who were conducting the primary classes. For giving the wider touch of education to people under the name of progress, and forming a chain of an administrative servant ,Kernel Fentan, a British Officer decided to start English classes. For that, he started to give some type of grant . Then this school named as a “The grant –in aid anglo- varmaculer school ”On 10 th of April of that year, there was a meeting which was held for the proper coordination of school.In that meeting the members like Trimbakji Nanasaheb Ahirrao,, Shrimant Dajisaheb Buti,Shri Bhargavrao Gadgil,,Kunjilal Saheb, Shrimant Nanasaheb Chitniis,Shri Narayan Swami Naidu,Shri Madhavrao Tatyaji Fadnavis.,Shri Ranoji Naik,Shri Bhaskarrao Tahasildar were present .This meeting was conducted by Shri Wasudeo Ballal Kher.In that meeting, it was unanimously decided to take a fee of Paise 2 for Marathi medium and Paise 4 for English medium.In between 1869 to 1870, Shri Balaji Daji Agashe and Shri Mahadeo Babaji,both were appointed as a First Headmaster and Assistant Headmaster of this school.In 1893,new name was given to this existing school as a “” Neelcity Highschool”.Because of the cooperation of Mr.Neel in getting this existing building, it was decided to give their name to this school at that time.,This building was the traditional mansion of the Bhosale ruler. Since 1893 this school is running in this campus. In 1950, this school was again renamed as “Shri Dadasaheb Dhanwatey Nagar Vidyalaya ”Many people, trustees, NGOs, and education department donated their funds for the improvement and progress of this school Many headmasters and teachers performed their duty for the progress of the school for giving the education to all levels of society.
On this day this school is entering 156 years.It's a proud moment for us that today our school completed 156 glorious years of existence. This Vastu witnessed so many social-political reforms, many up and down, more than 100 Headmasters, teachers, and nonteaching staff worked hard for the success of this school with the strong backing of Nagpur Shikshan Mandal …all praise wishes to all of them…school especially salute to our past students who are excelling in various fields holding the school flag high
